First Awards of Global Corporate Finance Qualification

14 September 2005

Following the launch of the first ever global Corporate Finance qualification earlier this year, yesterday we awarded the Corporate Finance Qualification to some of the city's highest profile and highest achieving corporate financiers. This first group includes figures such as [Howard Leigh] of Cavendish Corporate Finance, Jon Moulton of Alchemy, Rupert Faure-Walker of HSBC, Chris Ward of Deloitte, Richard Murley of Goldman Sachs and Sophie Warner of Whitbread.

Tony Osude, Head of Post Qualification at the ICAEW commented ''The calibre of our very first award holders demonstrates the credibility and quality of the world's first Corporate Finance qualification. These award holders are beacons of professional excellence and ambassadors for the new designation, raising the profile of corporate finance and creating a new benchmark for the corporate finance community to aspire to. The award holders are now entitled to use the designatory letters ''CF''.

Jon Moulton stated, ''I am delighted to give my full support to the new Corporate Finance Qualification. Motivated and ambitious young executives are an essential asset in the private equity business and a qualification providing them with practical and relevant skills is a great development for the industry as a whole.''

The Corporate Finance Qualification has been jointly developed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Securities & Investment Institute (SII). It is being rolled out globally and will provide the global standard for transaction-based skills development and help raise professional and ethical standards in corporate finance.

The new programme starting this month comprises three stages, tailored to suit candidates from entry level right through to experienced professionals, with an award at each stage. On completion of the third stage, successful candidates will receive the Advanced Diploma accompanied by the associated CF designatory letters. The letters are intended to be a marque of distinction for corporate finance professionals.

Chris Ward comments ''This is a rigorous programme of learning and practical application that has been developed by corporate finance practitioners for corporate finance practitioners. It will be extremely relevant for anyone wishing to pursue a career in corporate finance. Deloitte will be committing all its new joiners to the new Corporate Finance Qualification.''

As well as the qualification route, there is an opportunity for senior practitioners to obtain the CF designation via the experience Route, in acknowledgement of the depth of their experience and contribution to the profession.

The new qualification is part of the ICAEW's 'one institute, multiple qualifications' strategy. The ICAEW is building on its existing expertise to develop a range of new professional business qualifications that will offer its members significantly enhanced continuing professional development.

Programme Key Features
The programme encompasses the following key features:

It is unique in being the only programme of its type to develop, assess and badge individuals working in corporate finance at all levels. It is advisor focused and will provide the relevant practical skills and knowledge candidates need to operate in their various roles within corporate finance. It has been designed by practitioners for practitioners.
It will consist of three levels, with an award at each stage.
It will take a global perspective: Corporate Finance is largely a global business with a very high degree of common skills and knowledge being applied internationally. The programme will also provide for some flexibility to allow different jurisdictions to build in their own regulatory and legal frameworks.
It will be easily adjustable for different financial jurisdictions, whilst retaining a high degree of rigour.
It will provide employers with the means to ensure consistent standards and capability across their corporate finance function on a global basis.
