Simon graduated from Keele University with a Joint Honours degree in Law and International Politics. On graduating he joined Bank of Scotland where he spent six years working in the Acquisition and Leveraged finance team, focusing primarily on serving UK private equity firms. Furthermore, during this time he gained his Membership of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland.
In 2004 Simon joined Kaupthing Investment Bank to help establish the Bank’s Acquisition and Leveraged finance business in the UK. During his time at Kaupthing the business grew very strongly as the team transacted over 40 lead arrange deals in the first 3 years, with Simon leading for the Bank over 10 transactions which included the £817m public to private of Matalan plc and the £750m public to private of Big Food Group (comprising Booker Cash and Carry and Iceland Foods). Overall during Simon’s 10 years working in acquisition and leverage finance he has considered deals in most business sectors and worked on a wide variety of transactions, ranging from MBO’s, MBI’s, BIMBO’s, Public to Privates, acquisitions, and restructurings, whilst supporting not just Private Equity sponsors but also Corporates and Entrepreneurs.
