Cavendish is pleased to announce that it has advised Golfbreaks, a global leader in golf travel, on its sale to Sports Tours International.

Founded in 1998, Golfbreaks is the market leader in golf travel, sending more than 230,000 golfers a year to its partner network of more than 1,000 resorts. With 200 employees based at offices in Windsor, Charleston (USA) and Copenhagen (Denmark), Golfbreaks has an unrivalled reputation for long-term partnerships, operational excellence, and customer-first service.

Founded in 1973 and owned by Betfred Chairman, Fred Done, Sports Tours International is the global market leader in mass-participation sports travel. The strategic acquisition of Golfbreaks transforms Sports Tours International’s golf travel offering.

The Golfbreaks brand will continue to operate from its existing headquarters in Windsor and its four founders – Andrew Stanley, Steve Hemsworth, Guy Proddow and Daniel Grave – will remain with the business. The transaction brings together two highly complementary platforms, combining Golfbreaks’ established position in golf travel with Sports Tours International’s broader portfolio and growth ambitions.

Andrew Stanley and Steve Hemsworth, Co-Founders of Golfbreaks, said:

“The sale of Golfbreaks after 28 years marks a significant and emotional milestone for us as founders. We are incredibly proud of the business we have built and the reputation we have earned and are excited to be joining Sports Tours International and the wider Betfred group for the next phase of continued growth.”

Mark Stoddart, Director at Cavendish commented:

“It has been a pleasure working with Andrew, Steve and the entire team at Golfbreaks. They have built a well-established position in global golf travel, underpinned by a consistent focus on product quality and customer experience. The transaction brings together two complementary businesses with a shared focus on delivering high-quality travel experiences and look forward to seeing the combined business develop.”

Cavendish has significant experience advising in the travel and leisure sector, including transactions involving Class Tours, Travelopia, Much Better Adventures, Inside Travel Group and Distant Journeys. This transaction further reflects Cavendish’s continued activity advising founders and management teams across specialist travel markets.
