Consumer Snippets – 26 June 2026
Two tailwinds, one summer

Draught beer and cider volumes on Tuesday’s England vs Ghana match surged 77% against a typical Tuesday, with pubs averaging 170 pints and roughly £935 of draught income on the day, according to Oxford Partnership/Vianet data. Crucially, venues not screening the match still recorded a 46% uplift, demonstrating that the heatwave is generating footfall independently of football.
The combination of England’s World Cup campaign and the UK’s record June heatwave delivered a nice boost to on-trade hospitality this week.
Lager led the charge, +98% YoY, with cider +121%. The data points to a strong June trading period for leisure operators with suburban and community-facing venues seeing the strongest growth, with city-centre locations seeing comparatively modest growth of 19%.
For pubcos like Fullers, Youngs, Mitchells & Butlers and Marstons, the read-across is positive: consumers continue to spend when given a reason to, even against a backdrop of subdued GfK confidence at minus 23.
